I grabbed lunch at Savor this week. The store itself is very cute with all the typical gourmet shop goodies like jams and chocolates. The sandwich menu is pretty intriguing with lots of chutney spreads to liven up standard meat and cheese pairings. I opted for a fairly traditional item - a ham and cheese sandwich with cornichons and French butter. I think they might have jazzed things up by calling it jambon, but you get the picture.
I didn't notice until I was paying that they don't actually post the prices for their sandwiches - bold move! At 8-something with tax, it was a bit pricey for a ham and cheese sandwich, but the bread and other ingredients were top notch, so it beat the hell out of a Subway sandwich.
As much as I love looking at gourmet markets, I virtually never buy anything from the shop. Just seems like these days $10 for a jar of jam feels like an expenditure I can do without. Curious how all of these new shops like Savor and the Mercantile are doing. Have to imagine they're feeling the pinch as people cut out unnecessary purchases. Let's hope they survive because they are such a pleasure to browse through, and I'm a sucker for samples!
