Pre-marathon carb-loading at Portofino

I kind of hate running. About a mile is my limit, and even that leaves me breathless and bright red. Thank goodness for elliptical machines! That said, many other brave souls will be enduring the cold to run the Atlanta Marathon on Thanksgiving.

So while most of you are watching parades or football games and gearing up for a bacchanalia of turkey and mashed potatoes, others will be huffing and puffing for 26.2 miles. Yikes!

Fortunately Portofino is keeping them in mind with a special pre-race pasta menu. Load up on those carbs, runners!

Details below:

Portofino's three-course, pre-fixe menu is $25 per person and will be served from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Wednesday, November 26. First course items include starters such as white bean soup; spinach salad with feta, pine nut, tomato, cucumber and a balsamic vinaigrette; and Caesar salad with herb croutons and Parmesan cheese.

The next course consists of a variety of pastas including garlic chicken penne with grilled chicken, spinach, pancetta, red pepper and roasted garlic cream; mushroom risotto Milanese with Italian mushrooms and red wine truffle glace; and pasta primavera with fresh whole wheat fettuccine, mixed vegetables and garlic olive oil.

For dessert, runners can choose from a selection of sweet treats such as warm pumpkin bread pudding, gelato and tiramisu. Portofino plans on offering a special menu for other upcoming Atlanta races like the 2009 3M Race and the Peachtree Road Race as well.
