Share Our Strength's Taste of the Nation - April 12 at the Georgia Aquarium

The Mr. and I are just back from our birthday extravaganza in Colombia. More on that soon! In the meantime, I've got a raging headache and a date with my sofa and The Bachelor, so for now, I'll just share the scoop on one of the best food events of the year.

I get to go to A LOT of food events, so I don't say this lightly - Share Our Strength's Taste of the Nation really is not to be missed. At most food events, you have to push and shove just to get a measly little taste. And all too often there are only a few restaurants you really care about. Taste of the Nation is crowded enough to be a party but not so crowded that you have the fight for food. And the list of restaurants represented is a who's who of Atlanta dining. Add to that the kind of auction items you actually want to splurge on (Elton John's Oscar party, anyone?). What's not to love?

Here's the scoop...

More than 40 of Atlanta’s most celebrated chefs will gather to participate in Share Our Strength’s Taste of the Nation® Atlanta on Thursday, April 12 at the Georgia Aquarium. Celebrating its 24th anniversary, this gourmand food and wine event will feature specialty cuisine samplings; live, silent and beverage auctions; wine tastings and live entertainment.

Commended as the premiere culinary benefit in the country, Taste of the Nation is a model for successful fundraisers from coast to coast. One of nearly 40 Taste of the Nation events held across the country, the Atlanta event has granted more than $9 million since 1989 and continues to make a significant contribution to Share Our Strength’s work ending childhood hunger in America.

In addition to sampling elegant food and wine, guests also will enjoy a variety of live entertainment. An extensive silent auction will feature unique wines, spa packages and other luxurious items.

The Cause:
Hunger is widespread in Georgia, with 19.7 percent of Georgians living in poverty. In Fulton County alone, the poverty rate rose to 25 percent. One hundred percent of net proceeds from Taste of the Nation Atlanta will help fund Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry® Campaign to end childhood hunger in America and, as part of that campaign, continue supporting local organizations including the Atlanta Community Food Bank, Genesis, A New Life, and Share Our Strength’s Cooking Matters™ Georgia.
