Creative Loafing Atlanta Layoffs

Creative Loafing announced today that they were laying off four writers, including managing editor and food critic, Besha Rodell. The rest of the staff is taking a 5% pay cut.

This comes just months after the paper cut Cliff Bostock's 20+ year old Grazing column. Creative Loafing Atlanta, as well as sister papers in Washington and Chicago, is looking for new owners, and word is they are cutting higher paid writers to make themselves a more appealing purchase.

Doesn't seem to bode well for the quality of the coverage, though. CL is one of my go-to sources for food news, so I'm sad we'll be seeing less of Rodell. Hopefully she'll still be writing some on a freelance basis as Bostock is, but here's hoping they find more financially stable gigs soon!
