I was lucky enough to get a little preview of their lunch offerings today, and I find myself wishing I worked closer to Buckhead so I could enjoy lunch there more often!
We kicked things off with a sampling of salumi made in house and apertif sodas. The Barolo Ginger Soda, made with barolo chinato, lemon, grapefruit bitters and fever tree ginger ale was excellent - sweet and thirsty quenching without being cloying, and the buratta spread over their fresh baked bread was heavenly.
Brian Lewis, owner of STG and sister restaurant Bocado, gave us a tour of the impressively clean and organized (despite its diminutive size) kitchen. Most food is made in the fancy schmancy Italian ovens, so there's nary a range or deep fryer in sight.
Sandwich options are made on the same wonderful fresh made grilled bread. I opted for the in-house pork sausage with fig mustard and vidalia onion jam. This sandwich is packed with flavor. I loved the rich, porky goodness balanced by the sweet mustard and onions and the chewy bread.
We also sampled pizzas from their lunch menu. My fave was the lamb sausage with sweet onion, ricotta salata and mint. An unusual pizza pairing to be sure, but the sausage was once again excellent and the crust was nicely charred and chewy.
We finished things off with honey suckle gelato in several flavors including chocolate and honey almond. Simple but oh so good!
STG's is well located for the Buckhead office crowd, in a strip mall right off of West Paces Ferry, and it's swanky enough to be appropriate for a business lunch and low key enough for a lunch with friends. If I worked closer, I'd be adding it to my rotation for sure!
And in case you missed the news, a new chef, Sean Telo, took over as Executive Chef in January. He was most recently at STK and has worked under Richard Blais and Steven Satterfield. He's also planning to expand the space to include a 12 seat bar for an intimate food and drink experience.
