There are so many food events in town that one can quickly get foodie fatigue. But there are some factors that make an event worth going to. Number one of course is participation of top notch restaurants. Second, a great location and/or great weather. And third, a great cause.
The upcoming Taste of the Highlands from 2 - 5 p.m on Saturday, May 18 has all of those covered!
The presenting sponsor of the event is Fifth Group, and it's well documented here that I'm a big fan of their restaurants. Expect bites from all of them, including neighborhood faves La Tavola and El Taco. Terrapin Breweries will return as the main beverage sponsor. Other Va-Hi participants include DBA, Goin' Coastal, Murphy's and Genki.
Fortunately, they take a rather liberal view of what Taste of the Highlands means so there will also be yummy eats on offer from restaurants from somewhat further afield like STK, Barcelona and Rosebud as well as local small businesses like Frozen Pints. See the full list here.
The event takes place in the heart of the Highlands in John Howell Park on Virginia Ave. The current forecast for that day is for 82 degrees. Sunshine and good food in a lovely little park? Yes, please.
Taste of the Highlands benefits Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, one of the leading pediatric health care systems in the country. Children’s is a not-for-profit that relies on the generous philanthropic and volunteer support of metro Atlanta communities to help kids get back to being kids. As a new mom, I'm all about having a world-class children's hospital nearby. Last year they raised $32,000 for CHOA. Let's hope this year's haul is even bigger! Visit www.choa.org for more information.
This year VIP tickets will give you exclusive access to specialty beverages and snacks.
New to the event for 2013 is a VIP ticket allowing patrons exclusive access to specialty beverages and snacks from area restaurants.
Restaurants will be judged by three local food bloggers including yours truly to determine the best bite. That means I will have to try everything there. It's hard to be me!
Your ticket covers all food and beverages. Tickets are $40 in advance and $50 the day of the event. They can be purchased online here. All proceeds benefit Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.
