Hot Dog Eating Qualifying Event at Cypress Street - June 15

Have you ever watched the hot dog eating contest at Coney Island that airs every 4th of July ESPN? It's truly something to behold. Why should NY have all the fun? Now you can watch surprisingly slim people shove wieners down their gullet on Saturday, June 15 at Cypress Street Pint & Plate when they join with Major League Eating (yes, that's a thing) and Nathan's Famous join together to bring an official qualifier for the Fourth of July showdown to Atlanta.

That's right, Cypress Street Pint & Plate is an officially sanctioned stop on the 2013 Nathan’s Famous qualifying tour, a circuit of more than a dozen contests occurring around the world. Beginning at 11 a.m.on Cypress’ patio, the event will feature a 10 minute all-you-can-eat Nathan’s hot dog challenge and will pit local eaters against professionals, including Eric “Badlands” Booker, Adrian Morgan, and Atlanta’s own Damien Boykin. Who knew Georgia had an eater of such renown?

In honor of the event, Executive Chef Richard Silvey will be serving up delicious specialty Nathan’s hot dogs including:

The Bacon Wrapped Dog - served with teriyaki and pineapple salsa

The Sonoran Dog - served with black beans, fresh avocado, pico de gallo and lime crema

The Muffuletta Dog - with provolone cheese, pepperoncini and olive tapenade.

Get there early to grab a seat and a Shmaltz Brewing Company’s Coney Island Albino Python or Mermaid Pilsner on draught before the hot dog smackdown begins at 1 p.m.. For more information about the event, visit the Cypress Street Pint & Plate Facebook page.
