Atlanta Restaurant Openings

We're just back from LA where we did some exceptional dining. Must say I'm a little nostalgic for all the great food I had access to when living there, and I'm wondering why I didn't take better advantage of it back then. Oh well, at least I know I'm eating the hell out of Atlanta's finest.

Fortunately there are some new options here to get excited about...

The much delayed Yum Bunz is finally open on the westside (935 Marietta Street)! Yum Bunz is a Asian bun emporium brought to you by Real Chow Baby's Mike Blum, Miso Izakaya’s Guy Wong, and executive chef Chris Lee. The restaurant specializes in bao, which is an Asian steamed bun, and they're my fave part of dim sum. Char siu bbq pork is a classic, so that's first on my must-try list.

Chick-a-Biddy, sister restaurant to Shaun Doty and Lance Gummere's Bantam + Biddy opens today at Atlantic Station. Expect more chicken, gluten free and allergy friendly options. Sign me up for a fried chicken sandwich with pimento cheese!

Chef Hector Santiago, formerly of Pura Vida and Top Chef will be taking over as executive chef at Abattoir. Unexpected choice for him so I'll be interested to see what he does with the meat-centric menu!

Chef Craig Richards formerly of La Tavola and Ecco is in at Dinner Party Atlanta. I still haven't checked out these "little bit speakeasy, little bit supper club" events, but I'm a big fan of Richards cooking, so I'll be excited to see what comes next for him.

Ron Eyester's Morningside pizza joint Timone's is set to open at 1409 North Highland Avenue in the next week or two. Expect a casual, family-friendly NY vibe.

The Atlanta Street Food Festival is this weekend at Piedmont Park. Be sure to check out truck newbies On Tapa the World and Bento Bus.
