Great Miller Lite Chili and BBQ Cook-Off - October 5 in Conyers

Football games and the promise of cooler temperatures gets me thinking about one of my favorite cool weather dishes - chili. And it's just about time for the 34th annual Great Miller Lite Chili and BBQ Cook-Off, so perfect timing!

The event, benefiting Camp Twin Lakes, is moving to a new hood this year - the Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers.

This event is huge, attracting 15,000 attendees every year, and there are tons of competitors dishing up chili, cornbread, brunswick stew, and new for this year, barbecue kitchen and ribs. Competitors aren't kidding around there either. They dish up their entries with a heaping side of kitsch. In previous years, I've seen everything from redneck ferris wheels to a full scale pirate ship. Trust, the people watching is epic!

The event is family friendly, and kids under 12 get in free. There's live music and other games and activities, to boot. 100% of the proceeds go to Camp Twin Lakes, which brings life changing experiences to kids dealing with a variety of challenging health issues. The event has netted a half million dollars over the past seven years.
