Downtown politicos and office jockies rejoice. You can now dine in style at Sweet Auburn Seafood. Chopped winner and easy name to remember Chef Sammy Davis Jr. is serving up crowd-pleasers like lobster mac 'n cheese, shrimp and grits and po' boys.
I checked it out at a media event recently and found the red dining room to be business lunch elegant and bustling. Cocktails are off limits for me at the moment, but the little sips I tried of some of their signature drinks proved them to be tasty and very, very sweet. We sampled several dishes including bang bang shrimp, lamb chops and whole fried snapper. Each was flavorful and enjoyable. My one caveat is that everything had a similar sticky sweetness to it, so while I'd happily order any of those dishes again, I'd probably pair them with something distinctly different and un-sauced.
All in all, a worthy entrant to the still rather sparse downtown dining scene.
