Farmer's Markets

London Dining: Borough Market

Open only on Friday and Saturday, Borough Market offers an abundance of specialty foods in a series of stalls housed in buildings that date back to 1851. Specialty food providers come from as far afield as Germany and Spain to offer their wares to hungry tourists and locals. Chefs from many of London’s top restaurants come here to shop, so clearly we were in good company.

Despite the gloomy weather (it’s London, what’s new?), it was a blast wondering around trying out samples of everything from Spanish chorizo to local cheddar. You could easily make a meal out of samples or grab a snack such as a roast sandwich, but there are also several restaurants operating within the market.
We opted to get out of the cold for a bit and tuck into a classic dish of fish and chips at the aptly named Fish! The building is all steel and glass, so you feel like you’re outside minus the bone-chilling rain. We decided to split the tuna burger and the fish and chips, upon seeing how ginormous the latter was. Alas, the tuna burger was blah to the extreme, and I only at a few
of it.
The fish and chips as expected was far more than I could have ever eaten, but the boyfriend has a far bigger appetite, so I only snuck in a few bites. Can’t say it was the best I’ve ever had, but it was still a good crispy outside and flaky, moist inside, so all in all, not bad.
