FAQs About Visiting Mexico City with Kids

FAQs About Visiting Mexico City with Kids

How do I get around Mexico City?

Mexico City is a sprawling metropolis, but getting around with kids is easier than you might think. The city’s metro system is efficient and affordable, with most attractions easily accessible by public transport. For added convenience, consider using ride-sharing services like Uber, which are widely available and reasonably priced. When exploring on foot, be sure to keep an eye on your surroundings, as the city’s sidewalks can be crowded and uneven in some areas.

Is Mexico City safe to visit with kids?

While Mexico City is generally safe for tourists, it’s important to take some basic precautions, especially when traveling with kids. Stick to well-known neighborhoods, avoid traveling late at night, and keep an eye on your belongings in crowded areas. It’s also a good idea to carry a small first aid kit with essentials like band-aids and hand sanitizer, just in case.

Is the water in Mexico City safe to drink? How do I avoid getting sick in Mexico City?

Mexico City’s high altitude can take some getting used to, especially for young children. Make sure everyone stays well-hydrated, and take it easy during your first few days to acclimate to the elevation. Tap water in Mexico City is not safe to drink, so stick to bottled water and avoid ice in drinks unless you’re sure it’s made from purified water.

When is the best time to visit Mexico City?

Mexico City has a temperate climate year-round, making it a great destination any time of year. However, to avoid the crowds and enjoy pleasant weather, consider planning your trip in the spring or fall. April through June is ideal, as the city is in full bloom, and the weather is just right for outdoor activities. October and November are also excellent months, offering cooler temperatures and the chance to experience the Day of the Dead celebrations. I’ve also been in February, and the city is a perfect 70 degree escape from winter weather.

Why a Trip to Mexico City with Kids Should Be Your Next Adventure

With its rich history, vibrant culture, and endless opportunities for fun and learning, Mexico City is a fantastic destination for families. Whether you’re exploring the city’s world-class museums, indulging in delicious food, or simply enjoying a day at the park, there’s something for everyone in this incredible city. Great tips here, we’ve only been to the Yucatan so far as a couple but we now have two young daughters and would be interested to explore Mexico City with them.

I was in Mexico City recently and loved it! It was surprisingly clean and there was so much to do. We spent an entire exploring the anthropology museum and surrounding park. What a beautiful green space.
